Seafood vendors often get their oysters straight from the boat early, they're not as cleaned as you'd find in the grocery store. These oysters have all the bottom mud, gunk and thin coating on them. Here, we will show you step-by-step how to clean oysters with their shells on. But first, you need to know exactly where to buy those oysters.
Where to buy fresh oysters?
To make such a delicious seafood dish, you must find a place that can afford to buy fresh oysters. In this article, we'll not only give you some tips for finding the best oysters, but also locate good seafood, especially oysters.
How to clean oysters step by step?
The process of cleaning oysters is surprisingly quick and simple. It only takes you a few minutes. Fishermen's Net has listed for you 6 easy steps to clean an oyster.
Step 1:
Place your oysters in a large, large colander. We highly recommend that you, especially beginners, use the batch if you are cleaning a large number of oysters. If you are preparing a large amount of oysters, you can also do this with a large bucket and hose outside. It depends on you!
Step 2:
Then, gently wash the oysters with cold water. You should wash each seafood thoroughly, the same way you would with other fresh seafood.
Note: DO NOT WATER SURFACE WITH HOT WATER. Oysters are raw seafood, should be treated with cold water to ensure food safety and hygiene. If possible, leave oysters on crushed ice or ice cubes when washing them.
Step 3:
If possible, please keep all oysters in a large pan and cover with shaved/small ice when washing them. Ice not only keeps the cockles cold, but also helps you to clean the dirt on the oysters more easily.
Step 4:
Use a scrub brush to clean the oysters. Clean them carefully
Next, if the oyster shell has a lot of nodules and grit, you can simply use a scrub brush or maybe a toothbrush if you don't have a scrubbing brush at home to remove the excess mud.
Step 5:
Check if your oysters are open or not!
The final step is to inspect each oyster for shells before splitting or cooking.
Warning: If you find any oysters with open shells, do not cook or eat them. They may have been spoiled.
Step 6:
Once the oysters are clean, you can shred them to eat them raw. You can also cook them your own way, such as baking, steaming or even boiling.
Warning: If you break an oyster and it's full of mud, don't hesitate to throw it away. This oyster may not be safe to eat raw.
